The Knights and Ladies of St. Patrick have organized the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Erie every year since 1987. This cherished tradition draws lively crowds near St. Patrick’s Day. Jim Mahoney was the inaugural Grand Marshal, and the society’s steadfast sponsorship has ensured its continuity since then.
Paul Causgrove, the current President of the Knights and Ladies of St. Patrick, shared insights into the parade’s rich history. In his first year as President, he faced weather challenges, but the Streets Department stepped in admirably to ensure the streets were clear for the festive occasion. Despite winter conditions, the community’s response and the number of participants exceeded expectations.
Causgrove expressed gratitude for the community’s unwavering support and highlighted their commitment to enhancing the parade’s vibrancy. The parade witnessed a significant upswing in participation compared to the previous year, reflecting positive momentum for the Knights and Ladies of St. Patrick.
Looking ahead with optimism, Causgrove is already preparing for the 2024 parade, with plans to enhance participation even further, increase society membership, and continue providing a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together in celebration.
